Overview
Ostional Wildlife Refuge is one of few beaches in the world where you can witness an Olive Ridley Sea Turtle ‘arribada’ (meaning ‘arrival’). The Refuge protects 15km of beach where, under cover of the new moon, turtles ride the high tide waves to shore and crawl up the beach to dig massive nests where they will each deposit up to 100 eggs! This amazing phenomenon is one of the most spectacular natural events you can witness. The eggs take between 45 to 65 days to hatch, at which point the baby turtles start to break from their shells and make their way to the ocean.
While Mother Nature keeps her own schedule, turtles generally nest just before the new moon when the skies are the darkest and hatch the largest arrivals (called an ‘arribada’ in Spanish), which happen between July and December. (Click here to check the moon phase during your trip) We’ll meet up with our certified guide and walk the beach to observe these massive turtles making their way from the ocean to the beach and back. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a traditional breakfast before heading back to your vacation rental.

If paying by credit card, we need to know at least 24 hours in advance so that the company can bring the credit card processing machine.
Changes/cancellations for transfers/tours must be received at least 48 hours in advance. Please consider that this is the driver/guide only work for this day and, as a courtesy to them and their families, payment still needs to be made even if you change your mind at the last minute. Remember we are not responsible for the weather and tours proceed as planned unless the guide/driver deems it unsafe. If it is unsafe to operate the tour due to weather, the tour provider will work with you to reschedule your tour or provide a refund if a deposit has been paid.
Your payment does not include tips for the service provider, driver, guide or crew. If you had a great experience, they would be so appreciative to receive a tip.
